Forbes released their list of the top 5 richest rappers of 2019 today, along with an interesting look into the financial details of the culture’s biggest artists.
Coming in at #5 is Drake, at 150 million dollars. At 32, Drake is the youngest on the list by almost 10 years. According to Forbes, Drake grew his fortune by 50% this past year, due to his shares in Virginia Black, his massive tours, and his new Vegas Residency at XS Nightclub.
Kanye West comes in at #4, with 240 million. He has made quite fortune with Adidas and through other clothing sales. He recently made headlines for selling “church clothes” complete with a “holy spirit” sweatshirt for $225 and a single pair of “church socks” for $50.
#3 on the list is Diddy, also known as Love, whose net worth was calculated at 740 million. From delivering newspapers at age 12 to hocking luxury vodka, Diddy has remained a regular in Forbes magazine for decades.
Dr. Dre is #2 on the list and although he declared himself a billionaire four years ago, Forbes reports that he is worth 800 million. This is in part due to the sale of his Apple ownership, and massive charitable acts like granting $70 million dollars to USC’s music program.
Of course, topping the list is none other than Jay Z, who Forbes has crowned hip hops first true billionaire. Jay-z has made many smart business decisions with his rap money, which has led him and Beyonce to a combined worth of $1.4 billion dollars, with Jay’s being at $1 billion.
